S.K. Tsaturova. Emergence of the Modern European State: Medieval Origins (Experience of the French Monarchy)

The author explores the medieval origins of the basic parameters of the modern Western-style state as sovereignty, the legal regime, the legislative function of power, emergence of governing bodies and social group of bureaucracy, professionalization and rationalization of ruling methods, the concept of "service of the King" as a service for the common good, the ideologeme “people as a source of power”.

A.Yu. Prokopov. Comintern, the British Far-Left Politics and Parliament in 1920-1930ies

The article deals with the plans of the Comintern and of the Communist Party of Great Britain (CPGB) after coming to power of the far-left politics to eliminate the parliament; the election campaign of the CPGB and parliamentary activity of the Communists - the members of Parliament are analyzed. Some of the features of the relation of the CPGB to the problem of the elimination of the parliament are showed.

On the basis of Russian and foreign archives of documents, as well as domestic and foreign historiography the history of emergence and development of the institute of war reparations is studied. The article analyzes the development of purposes and plans of war reparation policy by powers "Big Three" in relation to Germany and the reasons for its failure.

V.I. Batyuk. Start of the US-Soviet Nuclear Arms Race (1945-1949)

The mechanism of the US-Soviet nuclear arms race emerged in the first years of the nuclear. At each step of the American side followed the Soviet response. The power of American strategic aviation was balanced to some extent by the Soviet air defense. A huge role in this period was played by the Soviet intelligence service.

I.K. Lapshina. US Foreign Policy in the Conditions of Divided Government

The author explores the level of knowledge in the contemporary historiography of the divided government impact on formulating American foreign and defensive policy. Special attention is focused on the researchers’ consideration of A. Wildavsky “the two presidencies” thesis validity in the situation of the divided parties control of the branches of government as well as factors, determining congressional-presidential relations in foreign policy in the post-war period and the possibility of the corresponding legislative gridlock.

E.P. Kudryavtseva. Change of the regime of the Black Sea straits in the London Conventions 1840 and 1841.

The article deals with the diplomatic struggle over the Straits regime after treaty of Hünkâr İskelesi 1833. The struggle between the powers around Eastern question and the process of developing terms of the London Convention 1840 and 1841 are shown.

A.A. Iserov. Newly Discovered Letters of Francisco de Miranda of the National Library of Scotland

The author considers newly discovered eight letters from the Venezuelan revolutionary Francisco de Miranda (1750–1816) to the Governor of Trinidad in 1804–1811 Thomas Hislop (1764–1843), dated from September 3, 1807, to January 4, 1811. The author made this discovery in October 2015, in the manuscript division of the National Library of Scotland (Edinburgh).
